Station 1

Location: 25 South Central Ave.  Hartsdale, NY 10530

Station 1  is the historic home of the Hartsdale Fire Department and has been at the heart of fire protection in the community for more than a century. The department’s origins date back to 1904, when local residents organized the Hartsdale Fire Company after several devastating fires highlighted the need for organized fire protection. In 1925, the fire company transitioned into the Hartsdale Fire District, allowing the community to support the department through taxpayer funding and improved resources.

A new fire headquarters was constructed in 1926 on the site of the original firehouse, and that building—now Station 1—remains an important operational facility for the district today. Over the decades, Station 1 has witnessed the evolution of the department from hand-pumped equipment and volunteer crews to a modern department with career firefighters and advanced apparatus.

Station 1 also plays an important role in community traditions. Each year, the Hartsdale Memorial Day Parade concludes at Station 1, where residents, veterans, firefighters, and community members gather to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Following the ceremony, a long-standing local tradition continues as families and neighbors enjoy Carvel ice cream saucers together outside the firehouse, bringing the community together in remembrance and appreciation.

Today, Station 1 continues to serve as both an active response location and a gathering place for community events, fire prevention programs, and the district's annual election, maintaining its long tradition as a focal point of public service in Hartsdale.
